WHEREAS, March 12, 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America founded by Juliette Gordon Low of Savannah, Georgia, and

WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts are a preeminent organization for girls in the world with over 2.3 million members, 880,000 adult members and an alumni base of nearly 50 million women, and

WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts provide a myriad of leadership experiences that build girls of courage, co&dence and character to help them achieve their full leadership potential, and

WHEREAS, through these experiences girls are given the opportunity to develop the skills and lessons which will serve them for a lifetime so that they may have a positive impact on their communities, and

WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts have created a remarkable national leadership development program that teaches girls to discover themselves and their values, connect with others, realize the value of education and take action to improve their environment, and

WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts increase the awareness of the opportunities available for girls in the areas of finance, science, engineering, technology, healthcare and other fields that can expand their horizons, and

WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts remain one of the leading voices in research on girl issues through the Girl Scouts Research Institute; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Lewisboro is pleased to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America and applauds the commitment the Girl Scouts make to support the leadership development of America’s girls.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this April 23, 2012 Town Board meeting and a copy be presented to members of the Katonah-Lewisboro Girl Scout Community who have future leaders and make the world a better place.
